Hello Friends and Welcome to my blog!!
So...some time ago...well January 21, 2011 to be exact I did a post on submitting my first piece of art work to one of my favorite paper mags...Stamper's Sampler.
It was one of those "a lot more work than you think it is going to be things!" I had to make a list of what I did, the products that I used and have it all mailed in by a certain date. I had to include a self addressed stamped envelope if I wanted to know if my artwork was received. So...I thought I would create a fun creation to send myself in the mail...lol.
I used a bunch of the stamps that I carved myself on this hot air balloon and envelope...and the pink background on the hot air balloon was created in GIMP (lol...I love GIMP).
Last week I finally got my
"Complimentary Magazine."
I was sooo excited. I have had a few things in Scrapbook News and Review...but something about a paper magazine...is just super exciting!
Here is a picture of the magazine...with my creation in it.
Those of you who know me...will recognize it...as "Heathery"...lol
So...here it is in stages...
Haven't done one of these types of posts in a while...LOL
I used my Silhouette SD to create the template by welding the hot air balloon and a ribbon banner together. My silhouette cut that out, and I used it to trace the outline onto my cardboard. I cut it out..and tore off some of the top layer to allow the corrugated part to show.
I used one of my favorite colors of paint to paint it.
Used a piece of value cardstock in ivory and stamped with both broken china and vintage photo. The stamps are ones I made myself.
Added some more stamping...and then inked all the edges with peeled paint, fired brick and vintage photo.
Here it is with the banner that I created using the Print and Cut feature of my Silhouette. When I read the description of my work in the mag...they don't mention silhouette (even though I wrote all that down)...and the fact that ..it was printed right on the piece...not stamped. My cute little bird I painted in shades of blue..and tinted with a red...and then used Ranger's Glossy accents to make it pop!
I added my siggy antique buttons with jewelry wire...and little roses!
There is also some trim left over from one of my Swirydoos kits that I tucked in around the balloon. It is the fun white and airy!
That was a long post...lol.
You deserve a Big Cyber Hug for reading this one!!
xoxo
Yahoo! Way to go! Congrats! I love this hot air ballon and all you did with it! Really love that bird! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHuge Congratulations
ReplyDeleteHeather I related to your post as it is a lot of work!!! People have no idea unless they actually submit artwork. What makes it special is when you have submitted work for the very first time and it makes the pages (this has happened to me - the latest being an article in Sew Somerset, on a whim I submitted only to be told would I write the article!)
You deserve this and I was sure it was you but didn't see you mention it.
So the hardwork pays off big time. Hope to see more of your art :)
Wishes
Lynne
